Yacht Race 8th July

There were four entries for today's yacht race. Peggotty ( Seal 22 ), Pegasus ( Snapdragon 28 ), Mhojo ( Westerly Fulmar) and Amatory ( Nicholson 32).

We are relative novices at hosting Yacht races but the competition was fierce and made the most of the wind which was a fairly steady force 4. Amatory and Mhojo jousted for position on the start-line and Mhojo just managed to sneak the lead by stealing an inside line. Pegasus crossed in more sedate fashion a few seconds later, to be followed by Pegotty who was held back by a late decision to reef.

This decision proved worthwhile though as they quickly overhauled Pegasus and gained third position. The battle between Amatory and Mhojo continued -- as the crew of the latter knew that they had to stretch their lead to at least six minutes over the courseof the race. After almost two hours of racing Amatory won on handicap by approximately 30 seconds over Mhojo, with Pegotty coming in third and Pegasus fourth. An informal prize giving was held in the new clubhouse -- Rob Teago and crew were congratulated on their win and all vowed to return for the next yacht race which will be held on the 2nd of September.
